TA Dive Club

The TA Dive Club was “formed” in the early 1980’s by a small group of “teaching assistants” who gathered after Open Water Diver classes to discuss principles of diving, local dive sites, and other related topics. Very quickly, however, the size and frequency of the meetings grew. What once started as a sparse collection of sporadic divers has since progressed to Ohio’s largest dive club, who can be found diving 365 days a year.

Diver’s Alert Network (D.A.N.) recognized the T.A. Dive Club as the first club sponsor in the United States to reach Platinum Status. In fact, the T.A. Dive Club has donated over $35,000 since 1984. Most of which is generated during the club’s famous D.A.N. BBQ. This fundraiser is usually held the last weekend of July at Portage Quarry, near Bowling Green University. Additionally, the club actively promotes D.A.N. membership to all scuba divers.

With about 86 active members, and a total membership of well over 100 members, our club is arguably the largest in the entire state. The club accurately represents a cross-section of the diving community. We have all ranks involved, from non-divers to PADI Course Directors. Every diving experience bracket is also represented: we have everything from several 12-year-old divers to eighty-year young divers.

What makes the T.A. Dive Club successful, is the driving force and fun personalities from all members. It is not uncommon for over 45 members to be present at the “small” meetings, which are held third Wednesday of every month, except for July and December when they are held the third Wednesday of the month at the Olde Summit Towne Restaurant, 14163 Broad Street, Summit Station, Ohio, 740-927-8950.

When not in the informal, yet fun and informative meetings, the club members enjoy diving at numerous dive sites located throughout the state and around the world. In fact, we gather at a different dive site each month during the spring and summer encouraging all divers to stay active and safe while having fun diving.
